ALLEGIANCE - A New American Musical

Allegiance is a new musical about Japanese-Americans who were put in camps during World War II. Staged readings in 2010 have featured Tony Award-winning actress Lea Salonga, television and film actor George Takei, and Broadway performers Telly Leung and Allie Trimm. The show, produced by Lorenzo Thione and Sing Out, Louise! Productions, tells the story of a Japanese-American family during World War II and the internment years when they were viewed as threats to national security. It’s a story about a family’s love, loss and heroism during the Japanese-American internment. Music and lyrics are by Jay Kuo; the book is by Jay Kuo and Lorenzo Thione.

"Allegiance is a major musical about a forgotten part of history," Takei, who spent his childhood in an internment camp in Arkansas, said in a statement. "Kuo's music soars, and the epic story stirs deep emotions. This is a hugely important work."
