Stearns Matthews

Stearns Matthews graduated from Westminster Choir College in Princeton, New Jersey in May, 2008 with a BM in Music Theater, under the tutelage of Dr. Christopher Arneson and Nova Thomas. He spent the 2007 summer season at the College Light Opera Company on Cape Cod performing in nine musicals and operettas, including Bye, Bye, Birdie! (as Albert Peterson), Anything Goes (as Billy Crocker), and The Secret Garden (as Albert Lennox), to name a few.

Stearns has appeared regionally with Philadelphia Music Theatre Works, Philadelphia's newest theatrical troupe devoted to presenting contemporary and cutting-edge material. Stearns has performed at such venues as Carnegie Hall, Riverside Church, NJPAC, and Spoleto Festival USA with the Westminster Symphonic Choir and the esteemed Westminster Choir, under the batons of such renowned conductors as Dr. Joseph Flummerfelt, Harry Bickett, and David Robertson. He was a featured soloist with the Westminster Choir and Westminster Schola Cantorum.

Currently, Stearns is becoming very active in the cabaret scene in New York City. He made his solo cabaret debut at Don't Tell Mama in July, followed by a critically acclaimed performance at the Duplex with friend and collaborator, Jeremiah Downes. Immediately following the Duplex show, Stearns entered the MetroStar Talent Challenge, a cabaret competition produced by The Metropolitan Room. Despite the challenge of being the youngest contestant to advance beyond the preliminary round of over one hundred submissions, he placed as the first runner-up! Stearns' solo debut show, "I Was Here", was nominated for a 2009 MAC Award for Best Male Debut.
