This Week's Selections

If you live near NYC, you've got a lot of decisions to make - this week is packed with great events. This week, we feature performances by a young Jason Robert Brown, Gavin Creel, Kate Pazakis, Jenn Furman, Gabrielle Stravelli, Gene Kelly, John Barrowman, George Hearn, Carol Burnett, Zak Resnick, Laura Workman McMurtrey, Alex Heinen, Colin Hanlon, Katie Mayhew and a vocal analysis by Seth Rudetsky.

How We Chose...

We've come up with a new format for the "Weekly Highlights." We'll try to feature at least one performance from each of the major sections of theBestArts.com - followed by videos related to upcoming events.

College

• Zak Resnick is one of our favorite singers on YouTube. If you haven't heard him before, you're in for a treat. This video is from a campus competition when he was a sophomore.

High School

• Katie Mayhew won the Boston Pops High School Sing Off in June, 2008. Here's how.

YouTube Singer

• Alex "MissBroadwayDork" Heinen has developed a large and loyal fan base in her first year on YouTube. Not only is she an incredible singer, she has great acting skills too.

Broadway - from BestArts on YouTube

• Videos from the Sondheim revue Putting It Together are among the most popular on BestArts. Watch this montage to see why.

Dance

• Gene Kelly included a seven minute ballet in his hit film On the Town. This video provides a 2:25 introduction followed by the entire dance.

Young Broadway

• Laura Workman McMurtrey sings a classical interpretation of "Summertime."
• The wonderful Colin Hanlon sings a great song from Pasek and Paul's Edges.
• Seth Rudetsky's videos double as entertainment and vocal instruction. Here he analyzes a performance by Gavin Creel, appearing in concert with the terrific Shayna Steele on November 6.

Upcoming events

• Pasek and Paul's Edges will be presented in Georgia by Columbus State University on October 27.
• 2008 Bistro Award winner Gabrielle Stravelli brings her powerhouse voice to the Laurie Beechman Theatre in NYC on October 30.
• Bobby Cronin brings a big cast of Broadway stars like Kate Pazakis and Jenn Furman to his "Think Big" show November 3.
• Jason Robert Brown visits Birmingham, AL on November 7 and 8.
