Tony Asaro
Tony Asaro is the recent recipient of the Anna Sosenko Assist Trust Award for 2008 for songwriting.
His shows include Family (music and lyrics by Tony Asaro, book by Barbara Means Fraser),
Broken (libretto by Tony Asaro, music by Kevin Cummines),
Our Country (music and lyrics by Tony Asaro, book by Dan Collins) and
Women of Colors (book and lyrics by Tony Asaro, music by various composers).
Our Country received its world premiere production as part of the
Planet Connections Theatre Festivity in June, 2009. It won 4 festival awards:
- Outstanding Book, Music & Lyrics of a Musical
- Outstanding Overall Production of a Musical
- Outstanding Lead Actor in a Musical (Justin Utley)
- Outstanding Band or Orchestra
