Song Suggestions for Adam Lambert
Adam is NOT in any videos on this page
These videos are song suggestions we proposed to Adam in February, 2009.
As our viewers know, we expected Adam Lambert to go far on American Idol 2009.
Since song selection is so important, we provided Adam with a few song suggestions in February for the competition
on this website page. Unfortunately, the "theme week" format greatly restricted contestant choice.
You may not agree with the following as song suggestions for Adam, but try out the videos below.
They're all great performances most people will really enjoy.
Adam sang our #1 suggestion!
As the season progressed, it looked like Adam wouldn't perform any of our suggestions.
We created this list without knowledge of the season theme weeks. Contestants were allowed to choose
only two songs on their own - one each during the "Top Three" and "Top Two" weeks. Adam didn't select
any of our songs.
However, each of the top two finalists sang a "producer's choice" song - and Adam was
asked to sing our number one suggestion, "A Change Is Gonna Come." Did we impact the choice? Was
this a coincidence? We'll never know - but because we're the hosts of Adam's most popular YouTube video,
we may have influenced the selection. Regardless, we love that he performed it!
Song Suggestions for Adam - Video Examples
Our top suggestion for Adam is Sam Cooke's classic soul song "A Change is Gonna Come", sung here by Cheyenne Jackson.
We know Adam has sung a rock version of the song in the past, but we prefer a more traditional approach:
Other suggestions include:
- Try a Little Tenderness
- Stay
- Kiss the Air
- Superstar
- I Know
- A Song For You
- My Funny Valentine
- Lately
- Why? by Annie Lennox
- I Heard It Through the Grapevine
- Easy - need to switch a few words to make it a guy's song
- Ain't No Way
- Since You've Been Gone
- Hit Me With A Hot Note
Making Songs His Own
The judges always talk about making songs current and giving them a unique feel.
One of the ways Adam can do that is with vocal gymnastics -
but that might get old. Often, less is more.
Blake Lewis was very successful last year by adding unique rhythms to well-known songs.
"On the Street Where You Live" was updated in a very creative way by Boston Conservatory students, adding great new rhythms.
While I don't suggest Adam sing this particular song,
perhaps he could do something similar to a song like "I Heard It Through the Grapevine".
- On The Street Where You Live
Although these songs are sung by groups here, they might make interesting numbers if arranged for Adam as lead, accompanied by the Idol
backup singers and band:
- Blackbird
- You Can Believe In Me
